Founded in 1933, Yamatogaku is a captivating genre of Japanese classic music that harmoniously blends traditional and modern elements. Originally established in Japan, the Yamatogaku school continues to preserve and innovate this musical legacy. In 2000, Yamatogaku USA was founded as the U.S. branch to carry forward this beautiful cultural heritage overseas. This year, Yamatogaku USA proudly marks a milestone—the 25th anniversary of its establishment—with a spectacular commemorative concert. ABOUT YAMATOGAKU
Yamatogaku, established in 1933 by Baron Okura Kishichiro of the Okura financial clique, is a shamisen-centered musical tradition with a distinctive blend of Edo-period melodies and modern Western techniques, such as harmonies, rounds, and humming. Performed mainly by female artists, Yamatogaku enriches the worlds of Kabuki and Japanese classical dance and captivates audiences worldwide.
